About
Martie was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and spent her teen years bouncing between summers with her family out on the Alaskan tundra and winters attending boarding school in Sedona, Arizona. After graduating with a degree in design, Martie worked her way up to head designer for a Portland based design-build firm, owned and operated Old Town Pizza Co. for ten years, and in 1995 started Space Design.
Martie’s passion for the esthetic and her eye for clean lines and subtle beauty, have lead Space Design’s pursuit for the “new” and “intriguing”. Her signature terrariums adorn the lobby of the Ace Hotel and Stumptown Coffee. Her restaurant accounts include Le Pigeon, 3 Doors Down, Clyde Common, Simpatica Dining Hall, Laurelhurst Market and Nostrana, in addition to numerous private residences and retail locations in both Oregon and Washington.
When Martie is not scouring the globe for rare and unusual plants and vessels, she can be found in her studio researching new plants for a roof top garden planting or in her greenhouse tending to her collection of orchids, tillandsia and cacti.
We love our customers! Nostrana, Le Pigeon, 3 Doors Down Café, Simpatica Dining Hall, Clyde Common, Laurelhurst Market, Ace Hotel and Cleaners, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Covet, Janes Vanity, Oven and Shaker, Keen Footwear, Lizard Lounge, Macadam Dental, Critical Path Software, School House Electric, and Wieden + Kennedy.
